The range and connection is decent enough for some fun. I do not recommend for kids because they are not encrypted and we got a few other conversations while searching for a clear channel. My biggest concern was that the NOAA connection failed miserably. Several weather incidents in my area and there has been no connection on the 3 different channels I am supposed to reach connection with in my area. These seem like a decent emergency set. But not connecting to weather is a big disappointment. They do hold a nice charge and are easy to set up so I'll give them that for the price.

These are simple FRS radios and aren't going to allow you to talk miles amd miles. I've been getting 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile out of the pair. Your mileage may vary since terrain has a huge impact on radio propagation. For local communications they are working great. I'm even hearing the repeaters that are 20 and 26 miles away loud and clear. They are small, tiny, I didnt expect them to be so small. They have USB-C charging, turn on with the volume knob, scan, have vox, can do ctcss tones for tx or rx. The CPS software is available on Baofengs site but you can use Chirp to program them using the Retevis RB-618 as the radio choice. You won't be able to change the frequencies but you can set the bandwidth, turn off all the tone squelch settings that are factory enabled. If you need a small option for close in communications I think these would be a good option.

This pair of rechargeable long range walkie talkies come with a lot of accessories and are pretty affordable.PROS- Range is pretty long, including outdoors (we tested it across a pretty big field)- Easy to use (buttons are large, accessible, sensibly placed)- Easy to hold (fits well in hand, has some grip)- Charger is awesome: It's double pronged on one end so you can charge both walkie talkies at the same time using one cord/outlet. The charger has a USB-A (standard USB) connector. It also comes with a charging cube with a power plug and USB-A port (so you can charge it in a USB port or a standard US outlet).- Instruction manual has a lot of useful information, sufficiently clear instructions- Pretty affordable set- Lots of accessories (including belt clips, wrist and neck lanyards, and clear (colorless) earpieces)CONS- Cheap assembly: The battery pack secures to the walkie talkie with a screw, and I was unable to twist the screw enough to make it flush against the battery pack (the screw got stripped because it's made with cheap metal)- Sound quality is mediocre (I could hear the voice of my companion clearly enough, but there was a low static sound in the background)NOT YET TESTED- Battery length (I've only charged them once so far, and haven't used them much)- NOAA channel (I was able to access the NOAA channels easily enough, but nothing was being broadcast in our area at the time, so I'm not sure how well it connects)Overall, I'd recommend these if you're looking for a set that gets the job done. These aren't fancy and I'm hoping they'll last, but if they don't, at least they're fairly cheap.

Easy to setup and configure. Comes headsets and other accessories. Would've loved a dock, but at this price it's fine. Doesn't feel cheap, but definitely not up there with high end ones as far as features. Overall great entry devices.

I’m going to rate these based on the price, which is below $25 for the pair. This is not a serious item for safety, but would be fun for a toy for kids. The item description says “up to 5 miles” but then one of the photos says Three miles…We tested them out. We got solid signal for a 1/4 of a mile, and then nothing. We changed our position, went up higher to not be as obstructed, tried different channels, nothing .I would say, for kids, a fun toy. For a situation where cell service goes out, you could still use it for weather alerts and as a flashlight.
