Selecting the Right Cable for Your Project
16 Gauge
Drive speakers up to 48 feet @ 8 ohms or 24 feet @ 4 ohms. Conductor resistance: 13.7 ohms/km.
Alternatives:
- Spend less by using 18 gauge for speaker runs shorter than 32ft (8 ohm) or 16ft (4 ohm); or for applications where resistance higher than 13.7 ohms/km is acceptable.
- Upgrade to 14 gauge for speaker runs longer than 48ft (8 ohm) or 24ft (4 ohm); or for applications which require resistance less than 13.7 ohms/km.
2 Conductor Unshielded
Use for single channel speaker-level audio, low voltage lighting, or any low voltage application that requires 2 conductors.
Alternatives:
- Upgrade to 4 conductors for stereo speaker-level audio, LED lighting + control, or any low voltage application that requires 4 conductors.
- Choose a shielded cable for line-level audio or applications where electromagnetic inteference (EMI) is expected.
In-Wall & Direct Burial Rated
Direct Burial rated for installation underground without conduit. CL3 rated for installation in walls and risers (between floors) in residential buildings and in walls in commercial buildings.
Alternatives:
- Indoor Projects: spend less by using a cable which is not direct burial rated.
- Commercial projects: upgrade to a plenum (CL2P/CL3P) rated cable.
Bare Copper Conductors
Copper is the industry standard wiring material for a reason. Compared to aluminum, its higher conductivity translates into improved signal & power transmission and more performance headroom at a given length. Copper's lower electrical resistance means that it generates less heat, which is a crucial factor in preventing the degradation and breakdown of conductor insulation. My wife and I moved and were having new carpet installed in the house we'd bought, and we bought this wire to lay down on the floor before the carpet installation so hooking up our old sound system would be easy and the wires would be hidden. The sound system is an early '90s Technics with receiver, CD changer, equalizer, tape deck and turntable with 39-inch tall speakers. It puts out 130 watts per channel and can really rock the room. These wires work great with it, no issues whatsoever.

This will be my new go-to speaker wire moving forward. It's very easy to work with and easy to hide. I only needed it for a couple of applications but I ended up running another set of surround speakers because I liked the wire and how easy it was to work with.

Like the title says, Voltive has really outdone themselves. The quality of this cable is really top notch for high end audio installations. Very well made pure copper wire with a very heavy duty shielding on the outer jacket and individual wire jacketsI purchased this to make 18 foot runs to my speakers from my high powered rack system.200 watts per channel calls for 16 gauge pure copper or 14 gauge copper clad.The black jacket hopefully disappear better along my dark hard wood floors.The diameter is just under a 1/4 inch, so if drilling a hole for the wire a 1/4 inch bit should suffice.I am very pleased with this product. It's a little stiff, but very manageable. It bends into corners nicelyand retains memory shape well.Very good price for pure copper. Shipping was fast
