Works about the same as the stick of wood we have had stuck in its place for years, but looks better and more modern. The pole lock also beats the stick of wood by being able to adjust its length to best fit.

I recently purchased the Sliding Door Security Bar and have been impressed with how well it works to secure my sliding door. The adjustable length from 17 to 50 inches makes it super versatile, and it fits perfectly in the track of my patio door. It's incredibly easy to set up—just extend it to the desired length and lock it in place. The sturdy metal construction gives me peace of mind, knowing that it adds an extra layer of security to my home. The 1-inch diameter bar is robust enough to withstand considerable force, making it an excellent choice for anyone concerned about home security or child safety. It's also useful for windows, which is a bonus. In addition to its functionality, the black finish looks sleek and doesn't clash with my decor. Overall, this security bar is a fantastic and affordable way to keep your home safe, and I highly recommend it for securing sliding doors and windows.

I ordered this to use on a sliding door in my guest room, to replace a wooden dowel that we'd been using. This metal bar is so much nicer and sturdier than a wooden dowel, for sure! I put the bar together, according to the instructions, in less than five minutes, and it also took only a few minutes to install. The bar comes with two extender pieces, one short and one long, and it takes a little measuring of your door or window to know if you need one, and which to use. However, the pieces screw together easily, and any last increments of space are filled by extending the screw-in stopper at one end. There's a locking pin to hold the bar to size once it's installed. Once in place, I can't slide the door open, which is the point. This will seemingly prevent a door or window from being pushed open with an average amount of force, or even from accidentally sliding open. The bar is low enough to rest inside the track of my sliding door, along the floor, and the white color blends in with the frame, so it's hardly noticeable. In combination with the sliding door's lock and an alarm system, the bar helps me feel as if the door is more secure, without blocking out the view.
