I recently picked up the Mario Colos Colored Pencil Set, and I'm loving it! Ok, let's be real. The main reason to get this is for the novelty. The color names are hilarious and it's a fun little gift for any Mario fan.You're not buying this as an artist looking for high quality pencils, but let's review them anyway.Upon first opening the package I was concerned that they weren't sharpened. But actually they were just turned point down. Which is unusual, but not a bad thing. Just don't panic upon opening the package the first time.For the color range, they've clearly put a lot of thought into the names of the colors. From punny names like "The Tanooki To My Heart" to semi-obscure references like "So Ein Mist!". Though I still have no idea why "Pretty Fly For A Shy Guy" is a light blue.However, not as much thought went into actually selecting the colors. WAAAAAAAHHHH! for example is a bit too on the red side to be Waluigi's iconic purple, but a bit too on the purple side to be Wario's overalls. Meanwhile, The Tanooki To My Heart is too light a brown to actually color a Tanooki. Or a Goomba. Or even Mario's hair. Heck, "Rainbow Road Coins" is more of a brown, and based on the name it's clearly meant to be gold. I would've liked to see a deeper purple, and at least a dark brown. But also, there's no flesh tone making it quite difficult to complete a coloring page involving characters.The box does note they have some free coloring pages on their site, but it turns out to require you providing an email address, and none of them were Mario themed so I printed out one elsewhere to try out the pencils.As you can see from both my swatches and partially colored page, the pencils themselves are pretty decent. They layer nicely, they respond well to pressure, they create decent gradients, and are even lightly erasable if you need a lighter version of a color. I didn't encounter any breaking lead, even when sharpening. The quality overall is pretty decent for a novelty pencil set. I just wish a bit more thought had been put into the color range.

I absolutely adore these. Cute/punny Pokémon quotes on the colored pencils in regards to each color. Great quality. Go get ‘em’ all. Have fun!
