I enjoy the Harry Potter world, so when I saw this book nook, I was intrigued. Once I received the kit, I immediately saw the possibilities to create other fantasy worlds. I am a huge fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld and thought this kit would mimic the streets of its main city.I read all the reviews on this product before I started, which was very helpful. I knew going in that all the decoration would be up to my ability to paint. I think others could do a better job, but i like to think that my painting gives it a nice quirky feel, like the city I am creating.Pro's: The pieces were clearly marked and relatively easy to put together. GLUE, GLUE, GLUE - open ventilation!!! I really enjoyed all the various window shapes. The sign options gave me a lot to choose from. I was able to personalize them by measuring the template and printing my own. The remote control for the lighting is an A++++, best of all the kits I've done.Cons: The Lighting is tricky to wire. I had some help and we're still not sure everything is in the right spot. The pieces for the window interior frames kept breaking, so i have more "open" windows. The worst part is getting the window pieces together, cutting the wire, etc., but it is doable. The plastic window inserts were hard to shape. It would probably be worth also adding some pictures in the window to give them some depth.Customization: Like others, I didn't think the cobblestones were exactly what I wanted. I used aquarium gravel. In retrospect, I would have searched for bigger stones, but overall am happy with them. If you don't want to find stones, using was provided, I'd recommend placing the cut pieces closer together and creating a caulk layer of some kind. White glue with paint added, maybe? Rounding the edges a bit and applying some paint techniques would enhance the basic look.I added some greenery to create window boxes and to soften the edges a little bit. I sectioned the brick work and painted each sections bricks a different color palette . I added metal corners and a new cover to make the book seem aged. One of the signs was for an Alchemist's Guild which is always on fire, so I singed that sign. For the DIscworld purist, I have clearly mixed guilds on the wrong streets, but its in a library, and L-space will do that to you sometimes.I think this is a great kit for someone who wants to personalize a book nook to reflect a fantasy world built around a narrow alley. I really like that the structure is so detailed and allows the ability to make it a unique finished product.

This took me a little over 5 weeks to build, but it was worth it! I love how customizable it is! I love autumn/Halloween, so I wanted to make an autumn scene. I printed out my own signs for most of it and glued them to the extra signs they include in the kit. I used acrylic paint since it dries pretty quickly. The wiring is the hardest part, but the video included in the product photos here helped a lot. I was only a little confused as to which wires went where because in the video they talked about black and gold wires for the lamps and mine were red and blue. But I just went ahead and wires everything else up and attached the battery (after charging it) and was able to test them on the wires to find out which went where (blue goes with black and red goes with red.) It was honestly a lot easier to wire than I initially thought it would be, the most “complicated” part was connecting all the wires together without them coming undone. They’re so small and hard to twist, but some very small needle-nose pliers helped a lot! I also had a heat gun, so that made shrinking the protective cover over them much simpler than using a lighter.Over all, this was a fun build and I enjoyed the fact that it was more complicated than most of the book-nooks I had previously built. I wanted something more challenging that I couldn’t assemble in just a day or two, and the fact that I could decorate it however I liked was the best part!

Got this for my wife who has gotten into these models. This is the first one that she has to come up with her own color scheme and paint, which has been a lot of fun for her. Trying different ways of getting the paint effects on the wood has been very enjoyable. As with most of these things, some of the instructions are a little vague so I would not say this is a beginner set by any means, but certainly a quality kit that will provide hours of enjoyment to build and should be a conversation piece when completed sitting on the book shelf.

I made the mistake of buying from a different company just because it was twenty dollars cheaper. It was awful so many things were wrong with the product.I have read through the instructions, checked to see that all the parts were included and the difference in the quality are night and day. Even the packaging is better! I can’t wait to start it.

It was well packed and arrived quickly. The instructions are predominately diagrams with some notes which I think will work well for assembly. However the buildings are not labelled even in the instructions. No painting instructions or colour photos so I will refer to alternate online sources. Comes with wiring set and remote control, which I may substitute.I have not opened the package of multiple wooden walls etc, but they look like they are cut well.
