Yes it is expensive but as expected from Kohler you get a very nice piece of hardware. I updated my old Kohler shower handles from the 90's with this one and am very pleased with the aesthetics and styling without having to replace the shower valves.

These are pretty amazing. They look nice and feel like a dream when you turn them. Every plumber who comes into my house over-tightens them, though, and they feel horrible like they will break, but just unscrew the base a little and they are perfect.
