Bunny Loom Knitting Crochet Kit

This set has been a great challenge for a determined 9-year-old. She's gotten frustrated with the instructions—the videos go very fast do not verbalize an important step, and seem to be missing some elements, so she had to redo a part several times as she figured it out. I'm so glad to see how determined she has been in the process. The loom construction itself is sturdy and well-done, and will serve her well for other loom projects. This might be less of an issue for a more established knitter. The bunny itself is cute, and she plans to make another one once this one is done!

I got this kit for my 12 year old foster daughter who is learning to crochet and knit. She absolutely loves this kit and the tin that it all comes in. She had no issues learning how to use it and quickly churned out the bunny without any adult help. She was very soon looking online for more projects to try with the loom and is discovering all kinds of new ideas. She gives this kit a big thumbs up!

I purchased the CRAFTILOO Loom Knitting and Crochet kit for my wife, who has expressed interest in learning to knit for a while. This kit seemed like a great all-in-one option to get her started. While the kit appears to contain a good variety of materials for both loom knitting and crochet, her initial impression is that the instructions might not be as straightforward as those found in other beginner kits she's looked at (like The Woobles). She hasn't started using the kit yet due to this concern about the clarity of the instructions. However, she is still looking forward to diving in and learning with this kit. We're hoping that once she gets started, it will prove to be a comprehensive and useful set for a true beginner. We will update this review if her experience changes once she begins using the kit.

i ordered this 'craftiloo loom knitting and crochet kit' and overall, it's 4 STARS. this kit comes with everything pictured and everything you need to create the adorable little bunny. it all comes in a well made tin, which helps make this perfect for gifting. it does give access to step-by-step videos to help you complete your project. the yarn that is included with this kit is definitely not the best, but you can still work with it. upon ordering, this kit was priced at around $20, which is a decent value at the price point, considering this kit has everything included and the end result is an adorable loom knitted bunny.NOTE: as a privileged member of the vine community, my job is to give unbiased reviews on products. i am required to report the 'retail value' of each and every product i review as income on a 1099 tax form. therefore, i am under NO obligation to rate products higher for any incentive. i am unbiased in my reviews and rate products accordingly. hopefully my reviews will help potential buyers.

As background: I know how to crochet and have crocheted for many years. I last attempted knitting a very long time ago and was never any good at it, so I've been interested in trying loom knitting. This kit comes in a very cute tin that will be excellent to reuse for future crafting projects (I'm sure many crafters reading this review are very familiar using a cookie tin for your sewing supplies-- you can use this for the same purpose). The tin has a cheerful image of the finished product. Inside, you have two skeins of yarn, two hooks (crochet hook and hook for the loom), plus the notions (including stuffing) needed to complete the project. There is a card inside with a QR code/website address for the knit version of this project on one side, crochet version on the other. My review pertains to the knit version, which is what I attempted. Some observations: the kit doesn't give you any type of intro to the contents. If you don't know how to start a skein of yarn, what the hooks are called, and so forth, it doesn't define these things for you. For a complete beginner, this would be very frustrating. The yarn is also not a good choice for a beginner, because it's very prone to splitting. It makes it hard to grasp the yarn with the hook, and it's just not a good choice for a beginner. The videos on the website are also not terrific. It looks like all the appropriate videos are present and in the correct order, but I kept having technical issues-- the videos hang up, and I'd have to refresh the entire page and find my place again (this happened when I paused, which, needless to say, you do quite a lot when you're following video instructions). I was watching on the computer, for what it's worth, because I wanted to be able to see the images in a larger format than I could on my phone. The instructions also just aren't beginner-level, not truly. They don't go slow enough, and they don't give you adequate views of what you're supposed to be doing. They'd benefit a lot from close-ups, different angles, and so on. I was almost immediately pulling up videos on YouTube to help me understand what the website was telling me to do.There are a lot of things left unsaid. For instance, nothing is mentioned about tension: should I make loose loops? Should they be tight? If you're new to loom knitting, you won't know that. Does the first row end at the peg itself or right before the peg? These seem like small things, but they're crucial, and a total newbie-- which, when it comes to loom knitting, I am-- won't know the answers to these things. The plastic looms themselves feel very sturdy, and I assume you could reuse them in future projects. The two hooks are also perfectly serviceable.I confess I got so frustrated that I put this away-- I didn't want to make a mess of things and waste materials. I'm going to watch more videos and maybe try another project on my own first to see if I can learn the basics that way, and then I'll come back to this and try again. Not recommended for true beginners.
