I've always wanted a large griddle that heats evenly, to replicate the "flat top" I use at work. I was delighted when I found this griddle that is made to actually replace the grates on my Weber Spirit grill.It comes pre-seasoned, so I simply removed half the grill grates on my weber, placed this griddle in place, hit it with some pan release, and started cooking. No problem with sticking, right out of the box.This could act as a pizza stone, great for fajitas or shrimp, asparagus drizzled in olive oil, and of course bacon, eggs, and flapjacks.It is reversible, flat on one side, grooved on the other for marking meats.Each time I use it, it becomes darker with the seasoning process.So now I have a grill that has both grill grates AND a flat top!I couldn't be more delighted.

I use the grill and the griddle outside a lot. Unfortunately, there are times when I do not need both appliances to be hot at the same time because portions are just not that big. When I came across this concept while inside a big box store, I was intrigued and wanted to give it a shot. It would be one device doing the task of two. So, when I saw this one, I decided it was time.Here are my thoughts:The griddle arrived fairly quickly and was packaged appropriately. It comes with the single double sided griddle plate and nothing else.The first thing I noted when I opened the box was that it had some sort of coating on it. The plate appears to be well made and is heavy, like cast iron should be, but I have never seen a cast iron piece that was coated.Went back to the description and could not see where it listed it as being coated, painted, or anything like that. I have several cast products and have seasoned them many times. So, when trying to do just that, I went to wipe it down with some oil and it just rolled right off, like it had a nonstick coating. Odd.In the spirit of giving it a solid shake, I fired up the grill and threw this plate on it. Immediately it began to smoke, burning off whatever it was coated with. It smelled absolutely awful. I let it sit for about an hour at 400 degrees, finally the smoking stopped. Bluish black smoke, the neighbors were like dude WTF the smell!!!I rotated it a bit to get some of the spots that were “missed” and let it roll for another hour and then I was able to season it.I may have to go through the process of seasoning this several more times because it creates an odd flavor in food cooked on it. Tested some fried eggs and chicken breast tenders (nude, unseasoned) only to note a very similar chemical taste to the smoke that was rolling off of it in the beginning. Not good.If I can get the coating completely off or out of this, it will be a five-star item….but if it does not stop producing foul chemical flavors in food, what good is it?Currently, the time I have invested into this, and the inability to utilize it, I cannot say I would recommend this.3 stars for the design, which is awesome. But -2 on the chemical coating, not cool.

THIS PLATE IS JUST THE THING TO TURN YOUR GRILL INTO A SHORT ORDER DINER STYLE GRILL!!! FRY UP PANCAKES, EGGS, AMERICAN FRIES ,, THE USES ARE HUGE! THE PLATE IS MADE FROM TRUE CAST IRON. AS SOON AS YOU GO TO PICK IT UP THE FIRST TIME, YOU'LL KNOW THAT THIS IS THE REAL DEAL. PLUS, THE PLATE CAN BE FLIPPED OVER TO HAVE A RIBBED GRATING FOR STEAKS AND SUCH, OR THE SMOOTH SIDE FOR SCRAMBLED EGGS AND ANYTHING YOU MIGHT WANT A FLAT SURFACE TO COOK ON. THE PRICE IS NOT BAD WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT YOU WON'T NEED TO PURCHASE ONE OF THOSE HIGH PRICED GRILLS THAT ARE ADVERTISED IN BOOKS AND COMMERCIALS...ONE THING YOU MIGHT WANT TO DO IS CALLED "SEASON" THE PLATE... IT INVOLVES BAKING THE PLATE IN YOUR OVEN AFTER COATING IT WITH VEGETABLE OIL..

Nice heavy duty cast iron griddle! Made to fit a Weber Spirit 2 but you could use it as a generic cast iron griddle for stovetop ranges with a double burner or on pretty much any outdoor barbecue. One side is smooth while the other has lines so you can use whichever you prefer.

Very heavy and well built griddle insert for Weber grill, the size is fits very good. I started with some bacon and burger parties. Not bad, cooks well and easy. Need to preheat and cast iron loves fats. Overall, good product

I really like this cast iron plate, it's a great and practical addition to my grill setup. The weight tells you it's genuine cast iron. Feels substantial and built to last. The reversible design gives you options - smooth side for eggs and pancakes, ribbed side for steaks with classic grill marks. It comes pre-seasoned, which is handy, but remember to keep it clean. Heat distribution is excellent and the price is reasonable considering it adds flat-top functionality to your standard grill without investing in specialized equipment. A worthwhile purchase that expands your cooking options.
